glee notes

glee

rachel: she sings funny girl as well as streisand… (not to be blasphemous) but seriously, the girl has something more than notes for that material. if only her part would veer away from the way we were (quinn is prettier than me…) but I guess its accurate to the mini streisand character… her eyes do a lot of her acting.

kurt: his voice has gotten better as the show progresses ~ he sounds like a young julie andrews, just brilliant. he should be covering a bronski beat/communards song, his voice is richer than jimmy sommervilles (no disrespect, its apples and oranges ~ i love jimmy sommerville). his face/body acting is very accurate to his character ( i wonder if he is actually acting…).

blaine: the most talented all-around actor on the show (of the kids), the best musical actor on the show, his face/body and voice are always in the perfect right reading. his character is a little more sophisticated than its age… but he is the perfect dreamboat.

mercedes: can run with the best of them (pun intended), her voice has also improved during the show. (like rachel with streisand) she has a genre that fits her voice ~ she shines at bluesy gospel arias… but gives rachel competition in any genre. her acting is ok, she isn’t given much to work with.

notes: most of the actors swallow their words from time to time, making replays necessary to monitor the writing.

the writers walk a tightrope of heavy themes in an early time slot, dealing bravely with important teen issues in an acceptable manner. there are some continuity problems in the stories; there are grammatical (tense) problems with the dialogue (timeframe problems in the stories).

the camera work/editing is often disappointing, possibly a result of the early time slot and the needs of an ensemble cast.

more on other glee characters later.
