sublime begets sublime

w s merwin the great american poet was on charlie rose the other night reading from his new pulitzer prize winning book, shadow of sirius. he was always a beautiful man and age has not changed that. likewise he was always a lovely writer and the years have not changed that either. the first line of the first poem of his new book was taken from the first line of the first poem of my book from the eighties, flowers of ecstasy. in fact the entire first poem is after the first poem from my book... so wonderful to be that highly regarded by one of americas greatest living poets. i am honored.

the reading was truthful and clear and the dialogue was interesting. much of what merwin said to charlie rose replayed our rare and intoxicating late night conversations in my garden, bottle of wine and crackers not withstanding. it is a delight to speak with someone who actually has original thoughts, something worth saying. you see many of the ideas from our conversations (which are repeated in that interview with charlie rose) in my book, eating god. we have been a great influence on each other.

those conversations on the birth of art/poetry/music are reflected in my new series of paintings, jazz poems. the paintings are meditations on the physics of creativity... sublime begets sublime.

blesstheworld.com

my website, blesstheworld.com, had been held hostage by hindus in india for two years ~ we couldnt update it or fix all the problems they created... they had changed passwords and were extorting money and even my old webgirl miriam (who is in mexico and subsequently dumped me at the height of the problems) couldnt fix the mess she created. my dear friend karen guido saved the day! it has taken awhile but we built a new, stylish, simple, modern website and yesterday did a hostile takeover of my own domain. we have regained control and blesstheworld.com is now live online, functioning and current. the shopping cart works. the newsletter works. and it all makes sense! all the money, time, and energy i spent with the hindus had to be scrapped. it was a waste except for the lesson learned: buy american! i have a wonderful site now and im happy with what we have done. it is a great thing! many many many thanks to karen guido and tinicum designs.

war and piece

those who come to class or read my newsletter know i predicted conflict for this month. interpersonal conflict (relationship conflict), business conflict, and social conflict. the riots in iran over their elections, the unrest and terrorism in iraq when things were calming down, afghanistan... the world is exploding with conflict! i am putting out fires in my personal life everyday! i had been a little lax with the peace graffiti but stepped up my output this past week. and others have been helping. i hope everyone is speaking out for peace (you can order stickers, pins, t-shirts, etc from my website if you want assistance with speaking out for peace). peace banners will be displayed at my upcoming fabulous party on sunday july 12. go to the website to see the invitation. i will be showing my paintings and other art. i just picked up from the framer a print i did in the eighties ~ it was reframed and cleaned up... it is surprisingly like paintings i am doing now... we dont really change, we just evolve. if only humans would evolve out of war.
