i went to the premier of the new movie, boiler maker, last night. it was a good film. solid performances by all. good writing, i would have liked it a little tighter, extending the lines in some cases... and i would have liked the photography to be a little tighter -- like movies in the 70s. two bank robbers end up holding an a a meeting hostage. accurate portrayal of a a people and meetings (in my guest experiences). john savage, joey diaz as part of a great ensemble. all good actors and good portrayals. delightful variety of characters. kurt caceres is the character of redemption. he has the difficult part of convincing you of his redemption and is quite believable. i always think it is the quiet portrayals that are the most difficult and he did it well.
sitting in the audience with character actors all around you is like being in your own home with family you havent met. you recognize them but you dont quite know who they are. and im terrible with stars. linda gray was a client for weeks before i said to her you kinda look familiar... my grandmother had to tell me who debbi morgan was when she saw her leaving my house...
elizabeth and i passed on the reception to go over to el carmen for a drink and a chat. we had a lovely evening.
