excerpt from newsletter

September 2011

Greetings.

It is the ten-year anniversary of the American Tragedy of September 11th. You may have forgotten about it, there has been so much tragedy and drama since then, but the aftermath remains strong. We are still at retaliatory war in Afghanistan even though Osama Bin Laden is dead. We are still at war in Iraq even though that country had nothing to do with the Tragedy of September 11th nor did it have “weapons of mass destruction”. These wars have destroyed more lives than were lost and affected by the loss of September 11th. These wars are bankrupting this country, both financially and emotionally. And spiritually. To heal the psychic wound left by the Tragedy of September 11th, we must heal the aftermath of the tragedy. Stop all war now. STOP ALL WAR NOW! Let September 11th be a symbol for the futility of war. Demand an end to senseless death and destruction. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

NO MORE WAR

11 September 11

Send a postcard to the White House now. Let President Obama know that war is not a winning endeavor. No-one wins a war. Remind him of his promise to bring the troops home. Use the above design to show solidarity. Make the “o” in “more” a peace sign. MORE PEACE. Share this with your children and parents, your friends, neighbors, co-workers. Whatever your church, share this with the members of your church, the leaders of your church. Post a banner on your home (like I do). Make an effort and make a difference.

President Barack Obama

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

war and peace

Roy Anthony Shabla have you done more for peace than the nobel laureate?

roy anthony shabla ~ books royanthonyshabla.com
books written by Roy Anthony Shabla ~ art, peace, poetry, feng shui, film.

Roy Anthony Shabla war escalates; casualties escalate. whos in charge of this?

Roy Anthony Shabla
the depth to which war is wrong is unfathomable. "unfathomable" means "cannot be measured, is too immense"... war does not negatively affect only the dead and those close to the dead or the wounded and those close to the wounded; war negatively affects the generations of the dead and wounded, the generations that parented the dead and the wounded, the generations that survive the dead and the wounded, and the generations not yet born. there is none untouched by even the most distant act of war, the negative effect spreads out from its source like a pebble from hell tossed into the still pond of humanity.

Roy Anthony Shabla what have you done today to save the world?

Happy Autumnal Equinox!

It is the end of Summer and the beginning of the Season of Blessings. Harvest festivals ~ culminating in the United States with Thanksgiving in November ~ are our opportunities to be grateful for what we have, what we enjoy. May this season bring you an autumn of the heart where you find a bountiful harvest festival within yourself.

The August newsletter received a great response! People commented on the “Predictions” section, reminding me of earthquakes I had foretold (I was like an earthquake meter when I was younger) as well as events personal to their lives. Usually, these incidents are downplayed or forgotten ~ I try not to be a “story”, a vaudeville, a parlor trick. But people do want to be entertained…

This month (September) is very unsettled. I do not want to verbalize the possibilities; I prefer to work for peace. While the meditation class schedule is very disrupted (my travel schedule is posted to both websites), find time and place for meditation and rebalancing. Helping yourself will help the planet at this time. Schedule a spa day for your soul.

And go to the free posters page on blesstheworld.com and print out fliers. If you aren’t working for peace, you are allowing war. If you don’t believe in the possibility of peace, you are supporting the probability of war. Make peace graffiti ~ get the idea of peace into the consciousness of the planet. Any wall can change the world ~ it depends only on what is written on it.

another glossary post

the following is added to the glossary on blesstheworld.com:

peace ~ in its most superficial form, peace is anti-war, the absence of war. it is the opposite of conflict. this can be applied on a global level, a commercial level, an interpersonal level, or as pertaining to turmoil within one's self, etc. but in reality, peace is much more than the absence of conflict. it is an equalitarian existence, a global life or a personal life of fairness and respect. those who work for peace in the world know that stopping war is a small bandage on a large wound. war is a symptom of a deeper consciousness that allows unfairness and disrespect to exist. the consciousness of individuals that make war (on each side of the conflict) and the consciousness of individuals who judge those who make war must be altered for there to be peace. while violence is an aspect of animal nature, war is not. and human nature has the power to elevate itself to a nature of peace. (see tao on blesstheworld.com glossary.)

and wear my peace shirts to make a statement for peace. every little bit helps shift the consciousness of the planet. http://blesstheworld.com

peace and graffiti

i wrote my newsletter about peace before israel attacked the palestinians in the gaza strip. the vibe of war must have been in the air. i had also stepped up the peace graffiti, venturing into new areas of los angeles ~ wifey was picking up cookies from a bakery on la cienega and saw my graffiti; i had been able to place a GREAT MINDS sticker next to a sticker of robbie conals. i have admired his work for many years and was proud to be next to him.

the night israel began bombing the gaza, someone stole two peace posters, yard signs, from my front yard. like i said, the vibe of war must have been in the air. those yard signs had been in my parkway for eight months.

i teach meditation at busters in culver city on wednesday evenings. recently, i have been arriving early to do some chalk graffiti in front of the shop. some of it is advertising... much of it is peace on earth. this week, while i was writing "world harmony" with the "o" in "world" made as a peace symbol, a security guard from a local business, as she was walking by, said to me: " nice handwriting." it seems, even the peace keepers have no interest in peace.

those who have read my new book, (peace) words, have loved it. maybe we just need the whole world to read it... shepard fairey sent me a bunch of his stickers for the holidays. im using some of them as part of an altered, limited edition of the new book. graffiti and peace bring all kinds of people together and im proud to participate in the movement with so many wonderful people.

i was arrested in the equal rights rally in long beach on friday. someone contacted me who was also arrested but he wasnt very good at communicating. if you were arrested or if you have pictures of me being arrested, please contact me. i was giving away pins at the rally: ONE FOR ALL and i was wearing a t-shirt with that design. i was happy to see so many wonderful people overcome inertia and stand up for equal and human rights. let the revolution shine.

t shirts

obama stole my slogan. i have been using HOPE for a few years now ~ it has been posted as a huge banner on the side of my house and in other places around town. i always get comments when i wear the t shirt. my mother still has posters up. GREAT MINDS DREAM ALIKE has been up even more but he didnt steal that one. dont think he could pull it off! i wish he could ~ im keeping my heart open to him. there have been free posters to download from my website for years now too so they could be all over the world. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TODAY TO SAVE THE WORLD? im asking you!

i just finished uploading new t shirt designs. they are great. some really beautiful HOPE designs as well as GREAT MINDS and some new styles of PEACE. there are also hoodies, tank tops, clocks, greeting cards, mugs, and posters... tried to keep the prices low ~ magnets and stickers are wholesale priced. all original art.

go to my website and bring a little HOPE into your life. http://royanthonyshabla.com

chain chain chain

this is not my war. but it will be my peace. raise your hands, raise your voices, raise your hearts ~and make it your peace too! (what a great slogan!) i am making new peace posters to hang on the house. what have you done today to save the world? go to the website and download posters to show your support of peace.

i may also make election/peace posters... VOTE SOUL with the O as a peace sign... we shall see what gets done.

the ny times reported on the massive number of deaths in the hibernating bat population of upstate new york. it is a serious ecological problem and researchers dont have a clue as to what is causing it. the problem with the bees is the same ~though scientists say it is unrelated to the bats. i think the scientists are too short-sighted, these are very obviously related ~maybe just not to the same immediate agent. the bees, the bats, the frogs ~these are the barometer of ecological homeostasis. the biological earth is very out of balance. well, the environmental, economic, social, and spiritual earth is out of balance. and what would be the cause of that?

we humans dont seem to have an appreciation of the deep consequences of our actions. karma. environmental, social, economic, spiritual karma! and a dozen other kinds as well.

the green movement is catching on a little too late. it was in the 1970s i got my family to install solar panels on our house. i was a freak! my parents almost didnt agree to it even though the economic rewards were obvious. it was just too much outside of conventional acceptance for the way one was supposed to live. now that convention is changing but the change is superficial and unexamined. many "green" products and/or lifestyles cause as much damage to the world and ourselves as the ignorant original. (how did florescent lights become good for us?)

five years of war in iraq. five years of lies. if people are dying senselessly, why wouldnt animals? why wouldnt plants? our karma is far-reaching. and we are the immediate agent.

when is the last time you protested the destruction of the rainforests? when have you protested the war? any war?

when i was last interviewed on bbsradio.com, i was asked about forecasting the political elections, the candidates for president of the united states. i always say i will not choose a winner because i believe the karma of the people as a whole will prevail. we have had george w bush for eight years because of the american capacity to embrace fear, uphold ignorance, and fully engage in inertia. we willingly and knowingly bought an inferior vacuum at too high a price that turned out to explode in our faces. and here we sit with dirt on our collective face without even the sense to wash.

my politics are thus: peace. ecology. no fear!

my lifestyle is thus (i hope!): examined and enlightened.

i had been invited to show my short films at an event in berkeley in may. i have canceled participating in that event. the restrictions were unreasonable; the return was severely deficient compared to the expenditure... i asked my host why the parameters were so unreasonable. she said the others involved were jealous of my work: my art would outshine theirs. (how flattering, in a sick way!) instead of thinking that we as a whole would put together a wonderful event, the others participating could only focus on how my work would draw attention away from theirs. they could only think about themselves...

isnt that how we humans are in the world?

peace peace peace

everyone who came to my feng shui workshops received a reusable shopping bag printed with the "great minds dream alike" logo with the peace sign. elizabeth, when shes not sleeping on my couch, has people regularly stop her to ask about the shopping bag. she has started selling them from the trunk of her car for $10 each.

it is the five year anniversary of the iraq war. thousands of americans killed, how many iraqis? they have been living without electricity, water, sanitation... but full services were restored by american troops to the areas with oil almost immediately. the lies that allowed the united states to justify this war dont seem to penetrate the consciousness of the american people. war is a funny thing, eh? denial is even funnier. today, did you think about the fact that we are a country at war?

the tibetans are staging a rebellion. the chinese occupation of tibet may be reaching critical mass with the olympics looming in the near future... the dalai lama has extended a very fair hand to the chinese government in an effort for peace. the chinese ignored it. i would not have been as conservative as he. i would have demanded complete liberation. the jeweled prison of a better life under hostile occupation is not attractive to me. and maybe also to the tibetans still living in tibet. people everywhere just want to be free.

peace on earth, peace in heaven

i made bob help me put a new peace poster on the front of the house -- it looks so fresh and clean. the photos of the peace posters on the website date to the end of 2005 and the spring and summer of 2006... and i was posting peace posters as graffiti years before i put them on my own house. so its been over two years that great minds dream alike posters have been on the front of my house, some of the other posters on the side of the house were not documented. and i have been selling the t shirts longer... i do want to make a new set of t shirts soon, 2008 will be an important year.

congresswoman julia carson died today of lung cancer. she was the first woman and the first black to represent indianapolis in congress. she was an outspoken opponent of the iraq war and before the 2003 invasion told a rally of her constituents that the war was an act of aggression to secure oil for american business. but nobody did anything.

when alan greenspan made the same statement this year, there was a little buzz. but once again, nobody did anything.

somtimes i think the american populace is made up of sleepwalkers. if awake, everyones house would be covered with peace posters. and the white house would be covered with stones.

peace pot

it was announced this morning that al gore won the nobel prize for peace. i am sending him congratulations and best wishes... but a little begrudgingly. i have worked for peace. i put posters up on my house ~ did al do that? his house is probably presentable. i sell t-shirts ~ does al do that? he only wears old man shirts and we all know old men got us into this mess... sometimes i have nine people in my class and i always talk about peace... peace peace peace, im all about the peace. but i dont have leonardo di caprio to introduce me ~ he wont be seen in public with me anymore! but thats his issue... and i dont jet all over the world to talk about peace, well i was in ohio but that wasnt peaceful... but i do send out newsletters all the time encouraging people to buy my peace products ~ yesterday in fact ~ maybe aol didnt deliver it to the nobel committee... anyway al, congratulations on winning. ill get ya next time!

war what is it good for?

last night i went to the blessings center early and posted my peace posters inside and out ~ even vandalizing the group of no parking signs in front. yoga class was meditative and at the end we lit candles and placed them along the walkway. there was food after and we all had a pleasant evening. commemorating disaster and death doesnt have to be morbid. what did you do to remember september 11th? this morning i read that russia tested the largest non-nuclear bomb in existence ~ four times stronger than what we have. i imagine that means we will manufacture four times as many of ours. war is good for business. the spokesperson for the russian military said: "unlike a nuclear weapon, this bomb doesnt hurt the environment." im so glad they are thinking of the planet as they plan to bomb the hell out of us! people are expendable but we only have one earth. the new report regarding the war in iraq states that shock waves from bombs dislodge the brain in its cradle even if there is no wound. thousands and thousands of soldiers go undiagnosed and exhibit serious memory loss, confusion, and inability to cogitate. shaken baby syndrome. this is like someone who has been in the boxing ring too long, someone who doesnt know when to quit. well america has been in the boxing ring too long ~ bring our babies home! it seems that georgie bush has never been able to cogitate ~ but he cant use as an excuse the shock waves of a bomb. nevertheless dont you just want to take him by the shoulders and give him a good shake?

yesterday today and tomorrow

i taught meditation class for the first time in a month yesterday and got an ovation (some of it standing) at the end. everyone has been crazy without it and they really appreciated my teaching. we had food for the virgo birthdays and chatted for quite awhile after. i came home to watch "made in la" a documentary about garment workers that aired on pbs but premiered at the los angeles film festival earlier this summer. my dear friend millie who works for legal aid promoted it and reminded me of the airing. i slept in this morning and that felt wonderful. my aunt mary came over after a doctors appointment and ran errands with me. then we went to lunch at mimis (which was better than ihop ~ her first choice). after that i went to pick up a couple cases of the bottles i use when making my spiritual remedies. between that stuff and emails and remote spiritual treatment of regular clients, my day is full. and i dont feel like i got anything done! tomorrow is the 6th anniversary of the september 11th disaster. after yoga we will have a candle vigil. i need to figure out how to hang a large "great minds dream alike" poster (if you havent seen these, check the website photographs). a shout out goes to some of those who have displayed my peace posters for over a year now: sutha thai (the best thai food in the world ~ including thailand) on lakewood boulevard in downey; my mother (whos poster brought crazy people to visit and she still displays it); and lil jean my daughters mother who has it posted to overlook a public parkinglot where the comments can be quite public... i salute you all! as a side note: when the realtor came, she suggested the large peace posters on the front and side of my house may be a distraction. elizabeth, aroused from her nap on the sofa, asked, "from what? the war?"

work?

i ordered t-shirts this morning (if you havent ordered my peace shirts or other t-shirts, go to the website and get busy! http://royanthonyshabla.com right now there is a special: order three and get one free, they make great gifts) and i mailed packages at the post office and talked on the phone and sent emails... what an exciting life i lead! last night i finished the last touches (i think) on a button painting and am waiting for it to dry so i can put a hanger on it and hang it. actually im not waiting for it to dry, its drying and im doing the other things that make up my exciting life. i made a small booklet of the text for the body of water film, students in meditation class got a copy (maybe that made them sick???!!!) and others went into the mail. now thats its out, maybe i will proof/edit it! or maybe ill just have a nap, the details of life are exhausting.

nighty nighty night

miriam, web goddess, put together the newsletter at the eleventh hour so it could go out before i leave town. she is amazing and wonderful and so good to me. i am almost packed, the house is almost ready, i am almost exhausted. i got a call from a client who happened to drive by the house ~she was happy to see the peace posters up again. i am taking a couple of the t-shirts on the trip with me, spread a little light to the midwest! this is my sign-off for a week ~try not to miss me too much!

on target

the live earth worldwide concert looked like a big target commercial. luckily, i like the target commericals. i watched for almost eleven hours, first at my mothers with dorothy and i being joined by my aunt mary, then at my daughters with little jean and jennifer. my daughter hadley wasnt interested in saving the world yesterday but has in the past made signs and posted them at the beach to encourage people to respect the planet and its life. thats daddys little girl!!! she watched moby dick in the back room while we enjoyed the broadcast. bravo and msn had different programming of the event and each was great. msn showed short films between bands which was a cool idea. al gore did give me a wave and a wink. this morning i finished my newsletter so hopefully it will go out tomorrow, depending on the weather in mexico... in it i announce that the peace posters are re-installed on my house and if people want to come and take pictures of themselves with the posters, they are welcome. email me for directions. hopefully you wear one of my peace shirts when you do it! (maybe some day they will be available at target!!!) the blogger software did let me write a title today so im sure the world is already healing... it still doesnt "remember me on this computer" but that could be because i shaved and showered. nobody recognizes me when i get cleaned up!

viva la revolucion

beto has been my savior, handyman, and gardener for several years now. he used to work for me full time but now only comes one or two days a week. whatever hair-brained idea i come up with, either he or big jeanne or both have been there to work on it with me. beto came this morning and we installed the peace posters on the front, side, and (a small one on the) back of the house. i told him we were revolutionaries like che guevara, he said che was cool. we talked about how what we do today will survive us... some kid who sees my house and posters will soon be telling his grandkids about the extremely goodlooking and slightly quirky man who lived near him when he was little... im going to dorothys to watch al gores live earth concert this afternoon then on to my daughters... the torch is being passed!
